Manic MINI High Performance Engine & ECU Tuning Systems

What is Manic Tuning?

Tuning (also referred to as engine tuning, Dyno Tuning, or eTuning) is the process used to alter the stock computer, and ultimately, how a car runs. This is typically done after adjustments to the car’s stock configuration have been made. For example, if a turbo kit was installed on a car that was not equipped with one from the factory, tuning would be necessary to make it run properly and safely again.

Reasons for Manic Tuning

Stock engine computers are tuned to specifically operate a car with the factory setup. After adjustments are made to that stock configuration, the computer operating the engine needs to have various parameters adjusted including but not limited to: fuel and ignition (or timing) maps for that specific setup. This is perhaps the most important step of modifying a car. The tune essentially brings everything together by getting the performance parts that have been installed to safely perform at their best. This is done on a case by case basis and is exact to each setup. Performance and reliability are the two main products of a good tune. After tuning is complete, the car is finally ready to endure what it was built for. This process ensures that the car will perform without hesitation or hiccups and can withstand more spirited driving without concern for immediate consequence.

When To Have Manic Tuning Done

Tuning should be done when making modifications that will change the amount of air or fuel passing through an engine. These adjustments can have a lasting negative effect if not quickly tuned properly. If you have recently installed or changed any of the following you should consider tuning immediately:
  • Larger camshafts
  • Larger fuel injectors
  • Turbocharger Upgrade (Hybrid K03, K04)
  • Nitrous Injection System
  • Water - Methanol Injection System
  • Higher compression pistons
  • Ported cylinder head

MANIC MINI SPS Switch | MINI Cooper S | MINI JCW

The must have for any Manic MINI already upgraded with our software. Plug and play switching for all stages of the Manic MINI tune out of the box. The SPS will switch between the 3 Manic performance modes already uploaded onto your ECU. You can also revert to stock performance levels by selecting "stock" on the rotary dial. The SPS is portable, doesn't need recharging or any set up. Switching takes around 2 seconds. Go Manic!

*Stages 2 and above will have a reduced performance mode when "stock" is selected. Taking into account the Hardware modifications still present on the vehicle for smooth running when required.

MANIC MINI Stage 1 ECU Tune | 2007-14 MINI Cooper S | MINI JCW

Manic MINI delivers a New Technology allowing OBDII "Port flashing" (via Manic MINI authorized Retail Dealer/Installer) of the newer MINI Cooper ECU types (not available in the Market before). Includes performance maps for all MINI Cooper S or JCW models, equipped with the N14 or N18 motor. 2007 to 2014 Model Year inclusive. The two methods available to get your Manic MINI tune today are:

  • Schedule a visit to your local authorized Manic MINI Dealer / Installer
  • Remove your ECU and mail it to an authorized Manic MINI Dealer / Installer for bench programming
  • If you choose method 2, the ECU is professionally bench programmed via proprietary hardware, software & factory BMW harnesses
  • In some cases with an N18, if the ECU ID is not on file, your ECU may need to be opened to read the ECU
  • The install typically takes anywhere from 2-3 hours to load your custom Manic software tune onto your ECU
  • Some Manic MINI Dealers / Installers will charge an installation or labor fee to safely and professionally reprogram your ECU on the bench

This is the world's first fully "switchable", customer hand held device called the SPS switch. This device allows the customer to "switch" between a stock map and 3 performance maps loaded onto the ECU. There is no need to overwrite the ECU again and again, simply switch it. No laptop is needed either, no power supply and no need to recharge the SPS Switch (not available in the Market before). Our Petrol Software upgrades for the MINI Cooper S and MINI John Cooper Works were designed so that no factory reflash counters are activated in the ECU by switching and a Stage 1 MINI can appear and perform as a standard MINI in 2-3 seconds.
